The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is an official agency of the United States Government that was created in 1913. On March 4, 1913, a bill was signed by the United States president William Howard Taft and established as a department at Cabinet Level. It exists to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of people in the United States who earn wages. Furthermore, it extends its services to retirees as well as job seekers in the country. Through the U.S. DOL, employers are tasked with elevating working conditions, advancing opportunities for profitable employment, avoiding employment discrimination, and that workers are assured of their rights and benefits.

To understand the DOL, various levels of leadership can be explored on their website. Furthermore, there is also information on the Fiscal Year budgets, strategic plans, and performance reports. There are quarterly updates, financial reports, and special reports available as well. These are available annually allowing for comparison when necessary.

This department administers a range of federal laws, and also is a source of information from employers. Employers can find out about jobs and training, issues that have an impact on workers, training and regulations that are to be upheld within the workforce.
